Can I transfer Avast to a new computer?
If you have installed and uninstalled Avast antivirus on your computer, then you have an incomplete system. You cannot uninstall it and you cannot transfer it to another computer. This is because Avast is a complex software that requires a good working environment in order to operate properly. The reason why many users are having issues when they try to transfer Avast to a new computer is that they fail to find an appropriate environment for the software. Before you start the process of transferring Avast to a new computer, you should make sure that you have the most suitable environment available for it.
Step by Step Procedure
The first thing that you should do is to uninstall Avast from your computer. When you are finished with removing it from your machine, you will have no more need for it. Now, you should locate the setup or install files of the software. It is strongly suggested that you leave the setup file alone and delete it. It will only be located in the following location: C:/Program Files/AA/vendor/media.
However, if you still have the setup files, you can go ahead to install them. After you have installed them, open the newly installed Avast antivirus program. It is strongly recommended that you read the instructions carefully. Once you have done so, you should locate the following folders: C:/Program Files/ AA/vendor/amedit. The folders will look like this: all your preferences and other information about your computer. If there was any damage done to your registry during the installation process, you will have to reinstall the registry. The settings database stores all the configurations and preferences in the form of keys. When you uninstall Avast, this information will be left behind in your registry.
In order to fix this problem, you have to back up your registry. To do this, you will have to locate the following paths: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Machine. This folder will contain the settings database. Open it up. You will find that it has the following values: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_ Settings In case you didn’t know it, this is where your desktop wallpaper is kept.
